Re: Bodybuilders

I tried, but no matter what I did just could not put on the bulk. Very sad really!! However, inspite of that I am more defined than I used to be.

Re: Bodybuilders

Soon the sofa is going to have a "fitness" forum in the "Interests" section, Lisa

Re your question, I think 5 classes a week of high impact activity is plenty! You could always probably do some weights or something that works on your upper body and keeps away from your knee.

Ask one of the staff at your gym- hopefully, all the staff will be fitness instructors- for a program that suits you.

Re: Bodybuilders

I found coming from a long running background (and my refusal to give it up even whilst trying to bulk up!!) I had to lift very heavy to put on any size.
Big exercises that really helped were overhand heaves, Squats and dead lifts and bench press.
Mixing it up with negative reps, drop sets and partials really shocked the system.
Love the pain of training!!!

Re: Bodybuilders

InPursuit: You'll find that everybody has to lift very heavy to put on muscle - light weights/high reps just don't cut it!  BTW, running is definitely not conducive to gaining lean muscle mass - it breaks down muscle!

If you haven't tried it, the Max OT program is an incredibly effective way to gain muscle.

Good luck!

MF.

Re: Bodybuilders

I agree to put on size everyone needs to life heavy however depending on physical composition and whether you are fast or slow twich dominate, some people will need to lift considerably heavier to get the same results.
Long distance running is not conducive I agree however hard fast training (stair running, soft sand running, sprint intervals) worked well for me

Re: Bodybuilders

OK gals what is your diet normally when your training and not pre comp diet, also what protein and other supplements do you use? I am starting back into fitness after an ankle injury so I have to do all low impact stuff, so even walking that is not necessary is out still, So I have the mag trainer and that enough to cause my ankle pain and swelling.

Re: Bodybuilders

I'm using a protein powder right now that is called ICE... the brand is Horsley's. Its a protein powder that contains glucosamine so helps with joint recovery as well as muscle recovery.

Re: Bodybuilders

I consider bodybuilding to be my most-loved hobby.  I lift as heavy as I can and have really gained some muscle over the years.  I have been told that I am the second strongest women in my gym (the first goes to a power lifter) and work almost everyday to become stronger.  The problem I find is that most girls in my gym are totally against lifting.  When they do lift, they lift 2-4 Kilo weights one a week or so.  I really have nothing in common with them and kind of work out around the guys.  Women **can** train like men and get really good results!

Re: Bodybuilders

i have recently started a weight program ( well i kind of designed it myself ) But anyway i have been doing it for 2 months now and have been going pretty hard and not really gaining any muscle or losing any weight. It is a bit upsetting but im determined to stick to it, i am working out 3-5 times week and eat pretty well through the week and eat whatever i want on weekend in moderation.
I can feel myself getting stronger but cant see any muscles yet..
I also have a bad back so i need to get stronger esp those supporting muscles.
for the first time in my life i want to look toned so im determined not to give up..

Re: Bodybuilders

Table81~

Try eating more protein/green veggies & less carbs. Also, increase your water intake. Lastly, best way to lose weight is via cardio-exercise. I try to do a powerwalk & then onto my home gym immediately after returning from the walk. It works for me & perhaps you, too.

Kudos to you for starting on your own- it's hard!

Re: Bodybuilders

I have been body building now, of and on for 15 years, so now I just do maintenance exercises. Its good to know others have the same interest.
The overall regime is three or for sets of  exercises, increasing in weights and reducing repetitions, plus a high protein low carb and fat diet. Then a few weeks rest period for the muscles to recover and grow.
looking for a gym buddy if anyone is interested.

Re: Bodybuilders

I'm not into bodybuilding per se but love the gym. I go at least 5 days a week and do a lot of bodypump and a weights program of heavy weights with reps. I'm also trying to increase the protein in my diet.

Table 81 I've previously had injuries and have found core strength building has really helped. Things like Pilates and Bodybalance (if your gym has Les Mills classes) are really great for core stregth and in turn enables heavy weight lifting leaving only the beautiful "I've had a great workout" pain rather than injury pain. Anyway hope you find a solution that works for you.
